Amid Protests from other FDC Members, Among Foils Nandala’s Attempt to Replace Ssemujju

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has foiled the plans put forth by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General to replace party whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda with Mawokota South County MP Yusuf Nsibambi.

In an official statement from her office, Among has directed Mafabi to address the internal matters within the Party before seeking any changes through the Speaker’s office.

Among’s office received a formal protest from Members of Parliament in FDC, led by Buhweju County legislator Francis Mwijukye.

Mwijukye’s petition alleges that Mafabi’s decision to remove Ssemujju did not adhere to the internal party processes. He argues that there was no recommendation from either the working committee or the Party President to the National Executive Committee, which is required for such decisions.

According to the Speaker, citing the petition, Mafabi’s actions are considered unauthorized. She advised Mafabi to resolve the matter within the party’s internal structures before seeking approval from the office to replace Ssemujju.

“While these issues pertain to internal party affairs, they impact the cohesion and functioning of parliament. I urge you to address the concerns raised in the petition to prevent any legal ramifications and disruption of Parliamentary proceedings,” Among stated.

“Once this is done, the matter will be presented before parliament for its consideration as stipulated by the procedural rules governing the appointment of members to various roles,” she added.
