Uganda Telecom Undergoes Rebranding, Introducing UTel Identity.

Uganda Telecom has undergone a significant transformation and rebranded as UTel, a division of Uganda Telecommunications Corporation Limited (UTCL), proudly owned by the Ugandan Government. This rebranding comes with a fresh logo and an engaging slogan: “Your network, our pride.”

UTel holds the distinction of possessing the most expansive fixed-line network in Uganda and holds the position as the country’s largest Internet Service Provider (ISP), with a primary focus on serving government entities.

However, there’s a notable aspect to consider – UTel continues to operate on a 3G network. In a landscape dominated by 4G and the emerging 5G technologies, this might appear somewhat dated. Meanwhile, competitors like MTN and Airtel are elevating their offerings, introducing innovative features such as eSIMs, allowing customers to possess a SIM without a physical card.

During the grand unveiling of UTel’s rebranding, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, the Ugandan Minister for ICT and National Guidance, stressed the importance of collaboration with the Uganda Communications Commission. The ultimate objective is to provide a significant boost to the national telecom carrier, propelling it beyond the limitations of the 3G network.

However, the journey doesn’t halt here. The realm of mobile money is rapidly evolving, demanding UTel’s active participation. Seamlessly facilitating transactions across various platforms and establishing a strong nationwide presence are essential steps forward.

Additionally, major players in the telecom industry now offer non-expiring deals for voice calls and internet bundles. The ball is now in UTel’s court to present its response to these evolving trends and demands.
